Serves: 20 (3 1/2 dozen cookies)

Active Time: 50 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

From: Fresh May/June 2009

Ingredients

3/4 cup salted butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

3 1/4 cups flour

2 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 tbsp. sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350f.

Step 2

In a large bowl, cream butter until fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar and then one of the eggs. Batter should be pale yellow and fluffy.

Step 3

In a medium bowl sift together flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Stir half the flour mixture into the butter mixture just until incorporated. Add yogurt and vanilla and mix well. Add remaining flour and mix until combined.

Step 4

With well flour hands shape dough into walnut sized balls. Roll each ball into a rope about 6-7 inches long. Fold in half and twist lightly pinching the end. Place twists on ungreased baking pan, about an inch apart. Lightly beat second egg. Brush cookies with beaten egg then sprinkle with a large pinch of sesame seeds.

Step 5

Bake for 16-18 minutes or until light brown. Cool on a wire rack and store in an air-tight container. May be frozen.
